Waimak United are delighted to announce an exclusive long term partnership with SSUSA (Scholarship Sports USA).
This partnership will allow for players at Waimak United to link directly with SSUSA who will assist in taking them over to USA on Soccer Scholarships. As part of the deal, current SSUSA players will have the option of heading over to Waimak United to experience life in North Canterbury.
DoF Harry Trethowan had this to say: ‘At Waimak we are always looking to create pathways for our young men and women to continue their football journey. We place a lot of value in trying to help players both on and off the field, so to be able to offer a route that allows for players to continue their education, whilst playing high level football, was a huge factor for us.’
‘It is also great for the club, in the senior space, to have an additional area of recruitment available to us. The chance to potentially sign players who have been training week in week out at top colleges in the USA is something that can and will add huge value within our high performance teams.’
Lyle Gifford (Director and Founder) stated: ‘We're delighted to partner with an ambitious club, who's vision matches our own in developing the best young talent around the globe, providing a platform for players to grow. It is a great opportunity for our boys and girls to test themselves in an elite environment in a beautiful country, with a professional soccer pathway open to them, should they succeed on the field.
New Zealand is a beautiful country with a elite level youth soccer set up that is currently thriving. The potential in NZ is clear to see, and we’re looking forward to establishing a clear pathway for these talented players to the USA.
After speaking with Harry, I know the club is in great hands working towards our shared ambition of assisting talented athletes within their footballing careers. Everyone at SSUSA is excited to get started working alongside Waimak United to provide a first class service that enables a smooth transition both for our players heading to New Zealand, and Waimak United players heading to the States.”
