Waimak United FC: A message from the Board Chair

Dear Members,

I just wanted to send out a quick wrap up of the season for those who will be unable to attend the AGM in December.  It’s been a wonderful season and we’ve continued to build on the new foundations that were set in the previous year.  The Board has functioned very effectively this season.  Our General Manager Amy Pawson has done a superb job keeping things running whilst always providing excellent service to you the Members.  Creating and building a great culture is key to our Club’s success and numerous members have mentioned to me that they feel this is improving and that the club is on the right track.  Culture and relationships are a key pillar to our strategy and a set of new Club values will be shared with you all before the AGM.  I often say a good way to think about this is how we interact with each other as coaches, players, parents, supporters and administrators.  Simply being “treat people the way you would want to be treated”.

Participation and achievement across both the Junior and Senior areas of the club has been high and members have stepped up and volunteered their help.  A further highlight of the season is that we were extremely lucky to welcome Adam Keizer to the team as Football Development Officer this season.  Adam has some splendid ideas/plans for next season to help us improve our offering to Members and help grow the Club.  Keep an eye out for a parent’s evening that Adam will hold in November to find out more.

Of course, we simply cannot operate without the help of volunteers.  This stretches across coaching, tournaments, referees, managers and fundraising.  So, a big thank you to all those people who have helped this season.  Amy will be trying to establish some new volunteer committees soon, so if you can help here it would be much appreciated.

The Club’s financial year closed on 31 October 2019 and we’re currently in the process of reviewing the books with the club accountant.  Current indications are that the club will be reporting a small profit which will be confirmed at the AGM. This would be the first profit we’ve had for many years which myself and the Board are very pleased about.  This result includes us achieving paying off $16,000 of historical debt to Mainland Football this financial year.

I have a few updates below to provide on some changes with the Board and also to provide an update on the upcoming AGM. We are calling for new Board Members as well as any items from members for the AGM agenda.

Board Update

This year we have had a stable board who have worked very well together.  This is the current Board makeup:

Marcus Deedman - Deputy Chair & Treasurer - Elected
Andy Saunders - Secretary – Elected

Nathan Jones - Elected

Sabrina Ilett - Selected

Kurt Brandso - Selected

Ben Roddis - Selected

Simon Gutsell - Selected

New Board members required

Nathan Jones will be stepping down at the AGM which means there are three positions available for election.  We are now taking expressions of interest from those who are interested in becoming a Board Member.  The Board requires all applicants to understand that the elected positions will be for a three-year term following which you will be eligible to stand again for a second term if you so wish. In edition all applicants need to be aware that the position will be an active role within the Club and include the management and reporting against certain portfolios.

All applicants shall apply in writing to the Chair Owen Hallmark at waimakchair@outlook.com including a profile by 5pm on Tuesday 12 November 2019. All nominations will be voted on at the AGM.

AGM & call for remits

This will take place on Thursday 12th December 2019 at 7pm at the A & P Showgrounds in Rangiora. We will provide all documentation before the meeting which will be disseminated in due course.  Please email me at waimakchair@outlook.com any remits or items for the agenda by 5pm Tuesday 12 November 2019.
