We are about a quarter of the way through the season already! The club has 109 teams and almost 1200 members. That is about a 20% increase! We have 13 Senior teams and 28 junior teams in the Mainland Competition, 42 teams in the North Canterbury District League, and 26 Junior All White teams. This includes 9 women/girls teams. This is proof that football is a fast growing sport in New Zealand.
Such significant growth is putting pressure on administration, equipment, and especially grounds and lighting for training. But we are very excited to welcome our brand new club members aboard and say welcome back to those returning as we believe we have a very special environment to play sport in! And of course it is a very special year for football with the All Whites qualifying for the World Cup.
New Structure
Over the summer we worked hard on establishing a new structure and strategic plan that will continue to move the club forward. This is a work in progress as the Board members begin work on their portfolios and put the strategic plan into action.
The Board members and their portfolios are as follows:
Chairperson: Blair Cutting. Assets and Staff (and Vice Chair): Simon Clark. Finance: Colin Nolan. Sponsorship and Publicity: Claire Spear. Competitions: Sue Webb. Volunteers and Development: Lesley Ashworth. Special Projects (Lighting) John Thompson. We were fortunate again that the North Canterbury Sport and Recreation Trust secured funding to provide the club with 15 hours of administration each week, based at the AMI Sport and Fitness Centre.
If you want to discuss something with a board member you can do so by email to the club address:
or leaving your details with the administration office (03) 311 8882.
Where does our Sub money go?
This is a question we are regularly asked so we have summarised our finances (based on last years figures) as follows:
Subscriptions did increase by $5 this season. This was as a result of NZ Football increasing their levies by $10 per player. With a membership of 1200 that is an extra $12,000 to find. We felt with good management we could absorb some of this but reluctantly had to increase subs for 2010.
Senior Men’s Division One and Player Development Teams
proudly sponsored by Horton Signs
The Senior Men’s side play in the Division One league and are currently tied for 4th. They play Saturday afternoons at 2:30pm and would welcome your support.
For the first time in a number of years the first team is supported by reserve team playing in the Player Development league. This is a tough league as it includes Premier League reserve teams too. With only one loss so far and a great win over the top team in the weekend, the PDL team sits 2 points off the top. They play at 12pm. Upcoming home games:
Sat 5th June – PDL v Nomads 12pm Kendall
Mon 7th June (Queens Birthday) – English Cup v Woolston Technical 2pm Kendall
Senior Women’s Premier League Team
We are very excited that our senior women’s first team was accepted into the Premier League for 2010. This gives our young women the opportunity to play at highest level and against the best players. This will be a hard season for them and a huge learning curve but we are sure they will improve week by week, especially with our support. They play on Saturdays at 12:30pm and have already had 2 good wins. Upcoming home games:
Sat 22nd May – v Coastal Spirit 12:30pm Kendall

We are pleased to report that all of our “A” teams playing in the Mainland competitions are playing in Division One, this is a great achievement in itself. The 12B’s and 12C’s, lead their leagues. The 18 C’s, 13th Div 4 Red team, 12th A’s, 12th Div 5 Gold, 12thA girls, 11B’s, 11th Div 4 Red are all 2nd. The 18B’s, 15A’s, 14A’s, 13A’s, 11th Div 5 Gold, and 10B’s are 3rd.

One of our biggest growth areas is in our Junior All White (under 6) leagues. In 2009 we had around 130 players. This year we have just tipped over 200 players. It is great to see all those smiling faces! Keep up the good work.
